been possible to judge the effect of the amendments.
2. The following points have also been raised in
further examination of the Code:-
(a) It has been pointed out that an Assistant
Teacher can in some cases (i.e. where the Head
Teacher is of local domicile) receive a higher
salary than the Head Teacher: e.g. it is noted that
in the case of St. Paul's Girls' College, Dr. C. Woo
is on her maximum salary of £444 + Charge Allowance
of £150 making a total of £594. But when
Mr. C.P. Smith is on his maximum he will be drawing
a total of 2640.
(b) It is noted that the 2150 Charge Allowance is
the same both for men and women, but the Burnham
allowances for Head Teachers are subject to sex
differentiation (vide paragraph 9(a) of the Report).
(c)
It is presumed, with reference to paragraph 7
of Part I that fees form the total income of the
Schools and that there are no endowments.
(a) It is also presumed that adequate supervision
exists to see that the greatest possible measure of
economy is exercised in all Grant-aided schools, and
that any fall in income from fees is satisfactorily
explained.
3. I approve additional expenditure involved by
adoption of revised code, subject to consideration, and
further information in regard to, the points raised in
two the preceding & paragraphs.
